Life, not as we see it.

Baroque Church altars, Lecce.

What we did today in Lecce :-
Early doors, we paid our ticket price, €9 each, and did the rounds of the baroque churches, San Mateo, Santa Chiara, Maria Assunta (Duomo) & Santa Croce, the latter being the most elaborate.  We also spent some time in the Museo Diocesano where there was an exhibition of modern religious art some of which was utterly unfathomable, as is most of the classical religious art, to me anyway.
Prompted by the tourist info office, we went off camp to find the Teatro Apollo outside the old town or Centro Storico, where there was rumoured to be a famous pianist playing, from 14:00 until 20:00.   In fact it was a famous conductor, Ezio Bosso, rehearsing the Europe Philharmonic Orchestra plus the youngsters of the Philharmonia of Benevento. Without understanding a word Bosso spoke, we both understood, or at least could hear the differences second and third time around.   Very interesting, and will make future attendances at classical music concerts a bit clearer.
The extra collage is, I hope self explanatory, except perhaps the lower right painting.  This is Sta Agatha having her breasts removed for some reason. Don't remember that from Sunday School.  It is a very strong and moving painting, requiring more research into her story.
Off to Tropea on the opposite, west, coast in the morning.
C u there.
