Last day in DBv

After yesterday’s inaction, we thought it best to try and not waste the day. After breakfast and sadly checking out, we left the bags with the hotel and got back on the bus to Old town. The one vital part of Dubrovnik we had not yet done was walking the city walls. We had done Fort Lovrjenac on the GOT tour so got a bit of money off the tickets. All the guides and trip advisor say to do the walls early in the morning, or late afternoon to escape both the heat and the throngs of tourists. Unfortunately it appears our alarms simply do not work here and we were unable to get ourselves up actually early. However we were there by 10 and although the walk was hot and busy, not unbearable so. We took our time and took plenty of photos. The only thing lacking is any form of signs or information on the way round. Dubrovnik is rich in history and was its own republic for hundreds of years, fighting off the Ottomans and The Venetians, before finally succumbing to Napoleon. The walls were instrumental in the city’s defence, yet there is nothing to describe any of this. Not even a leaflet, and I do like leaflets.

After a couple of beers in a nice shady square, we got the bus back and are currently sitting in the bar catching some last glimpses of the sea before departing for the airport. Annoyingly have been unable to check in online so we’re going to have to get to the airport that bit earlier and check in old school!

A lovely trip and a beautiful city. Would love to come back and do more of the country and the neighbouring countries one day
