Finding Nemo
This morning I went on an under sea walk and the highlight was finding Nemo. The walk was organised by the water sports centre at the hotel, and they took me by boat to a reef on the other side of the bay. We transferred to another boat that has a ladder at the back, and they gave me neoprene gloves and shoes to wear and then as I climbed down the ladder they placed a diving helmet on my head that had an air pipe connected to it. I then climbed slowly down to the sea bed.
There were two guys with me, one was swimming around to check there were no stingrays or other dangerous creatures and the other was guiding me and kindly took photos with my underwater camera. It was really amazing having the fish swimming around me and to see a clam opening and closing. But then we found Nemo and his family - there were some tiny baby ones too! The photo quality isn’t great but considering they’re taken underwater they’re a nice memory of my experience.
The next activity was paddle boarding - something else I’ve wanted to try, but this wasn’t for me. I couldn’t stand up, although I guess it takes a lot of practice, and because of my shoulder issues I struggled with the paddle, so decided to give up. I have admiration for those that can do it and make it look easy!
Alan went to the air rifle range to have a bit of target practice, but he wasn’t impressed with the rifles as he couldn’t focus the scope, but it was fun for him to do. Then the rest of the day has been spent round the pool, we had Singapore Slings at the pool bar, walked the full length of the beach and basically just chilled out. Oh, and we found out that the creature we saw swimming in the sea was likely to be barracuda!
For dinner we went to the Kenlong restaurant that I blipped last night at sunset and had a fabulous meal. The shuttle bus went without us tough, so one of the waiters drive us back in a golf buggy which was fun!
It’s been a wonderful few days here on Bintan and tomorrow we head back to Singapore.
