testing camera settings

For a small point and click my new camera seems to be doing quite well (under the limitations of the operator) to take nice pictures but today I had a play with some of the settings that I hadn't appreciated it had. I also realised more than ever that I view instruction booklets as something that I read just enough to make the thing work and then refer to only when the relevant gadget stops working!
