Nuraghe Losa

On our way from one hotel to the next we made three stops today. The first was at this nuraghe, built in prehistory by the Nuraghe people. Not much is known about these buildings. Apparently they weren't meant as fortresses and neither as burial sites. It remains unclear what the purpose was. Inside is a circular room with extensions and a high vaulted ceiling, surrounded by an outer wall. It was real craftsmanship to built these towers, using stones alone, no mortar and such. This particular one, the best preserved one on Sardinia, used to be 20 metres high. There have been found over 7000 sites with remains of Nuraghes. Very interesting!

Our second stop was in Bosa, a village higher up on the hills with colourful houses and narrow streets. Very cute.

The last stop was a church. Santissima Trinitàdi Saccargia. Apparently the most famous roman church on the island. It is said it dates from 1112. It has similar features as the Arabic buildings in the south of Spain. Beautiful and impressive on the outside, simple on the inside.
