Thirsty Ear
I took this shot in the early hours of this morning not intending it to be a blip. I had gone to "The Harley"( A great bar/club in Sheffield and the setting for many a good night djing - or hanging out with friends) To do a portrait shoot with a Street Artist I had recently collaborated with for a book I am currently designing. The shoot went well and, to be honest one of those shots would have done for this blip, however I forgot to ask her permission to post any images and actually this shot says more about me and my journal...
The Harley is not only a great place to shoot it also has one of the best club nights ever - Thirsty Ear Run by two very hip fellas Easty and Powlo who over the past couple of years have become very good friends. I had not intended to take photos of the guys djing as they have their own resident photographer Chris, and the guy is EXCEPTIONAL!! However I couldn't resist taking a few shots... It's a hard place to shoot as its so dark and then you get pools of light in strange places..
I started djing a few years ago, playing 50's and 60's Jump Blues, R&B and the like and started my own night BoneShaker. I quickly got to know Thirsty Ear as they started getting guest djs on playing the same sort of music I was into and after a while we started djing each others nights and sharing our love fro real vinyl. The guys are so knowledgeable, friendly, generous and two of the nicest guys I know. To be honest Sheffield retro dj scene is a very special scene with everyone getting a long a pretty much zero bitchiness. We all dj each others nights and there is just a general love of music around. Thirsty ear play a wide range of music from Hip Hop to calypso but Powlo and East will always play a little 50's R&B to make me jump with it...
Big shout out also to the PIP for a great rum session. Your dad would have been proud. xx
