Update to Payments
Hi everyone, we wanted to let you know of a change that's been made in the plumbing of our payment collection system.
Last weekend, an update to the laws around payments was introduced in the EU, called Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). New requirements for authenticating online payments were introduced, so we've updated our backend payments system accordingly.
The SCA rules specify that payments should be authenticated with two factors, such as a password, smartphone validation or fingerprint.
What does this mean for you?
You may find now when paying your membership that extra authentication is requested for the payment. Exactly what will depend on your bank or card provider, but it will likely be something like an SMS (text message). Don't be worried if you're not prompted for extra info - exactly what happens and when is dependent on the individual banks.
If you have trouble making a payment following this change, do get in touch with us at the Blipfoto support, using the Help, Ask Us link on the site.
While we're talking about memberships, it's worth noting for newer members that we value both our free members and paying members - it's that mix that makes a vibrant community. If you do feel you can spare the membership fee, then it's this that keeps the servers running and pays for any changes that are made to the site. The people that run the site are all volunteers and the company is a not for profit community company (CIC). All your membership is invested directly in the running of the site. You get extra features from being a paid member as well of course.
That's it - a small and dull bit of news. Have a great weekend. :)
