More Dereliction
A while ago I blipped a derelict ‘lodge/gatehouse’ and today I went back to photograph the building on the other side of the entrance driveway.
These were originally part of a private estate which was split up and sold off in the late 1950s - part to the West Riding Council and part to Barnardo’s. The council built a care home and Barnardo’s developed a children’s home. These buildings were used for admin by Barnardo’s who built some new residential blocks on the site (in the early 1960s). More buildings were added in the 1990s and 2000s.
The council sold their site to the Sam Smith brewing empire in 1959. The Barnardo’s site closed in 2003 and the site was later acquired by a subsidiary of Sam Smith Old Brewery in 2012.
It has been unused and derelict since then. There was a brief period, when the Tadcaster bridge collapsed, that access across the site was granted - to join up with the path over the old railway viaduct - so that pedestrians could get from one side of town to the other.
Thanks to Marlieske for hosting DS again.
