Bridge to Nowhere
Yesterday was a fairly quiet day after the party with our Vizsla still in kennels and Layla, our greyhound limping very badly and spending most of the day quietly on her cushion. We crashed out and caught up with the first two episodes of Borgen and watched the ice dancing.
My blip was captured after I had taken our grandson to Berwick to catch a train to York. I had hoped to take some images on the way back but the sky was uniformly grey and dull. However, when I got back to Dunbar there were some breaks in the cloud and the merest smidgeon of a sunset so I decided to go down to our nearest beach, Belhaven and take some shots around the Bridge to Nowhere. The bridge is so called because at high tide the bottom of it disappears into the sea and for a couple of hours either side of high tide it is not possible to cross it unless you want to swim out to it. At other times it is a useful crossing point over the river Biel in order to get onto the beach.
I was fortunate enough to catch a reasonable patch of broken cloud before sunset. The contrast levels were very high and I therefore used the in camera HDR setting on my Sony RX100. I have been quite impressed with this feature which takes three exposures very quickly at different exposures and blends them together in camera. They always appear to look reasonably natural and do not take on the rather artificial feel of much of HDR photography. The exposures are quick enough to avoid any ghosting or movement blur as you can see from the people on the bridge in my image.
