The spirit of the crusades

I saw this striking sculpture in the National Museum Cardiff. It is a competition model for the Paisley War Memorial by Gertrude M Williams.

"Some war memorials created after the First World War combined the notions of just causes with Romantic chivalry."

I was vaguely aware of this, but never seen such an obvious example. I find it rather disquieting.
