"The Grand Fountain"
Another horrible day and I did think about doing an inside Blip but as we start the new year with a new fitness regime, after my stint on the elliptical walker and 20 lengths of the swimming pool I went back to the Fountain Gardens for another Statue Blip. I'm trying to educate you as we go along. The Grand Fountain - the centre piece of Paisley's Fountain Gardens Park is a Category A-listed monument and is considered to be one of Scotland's finest remaining fountains.
The fountain dates back to 1868, having been gifted to the people of Paisley by Thomas Coats of Ferguslie, joint-owner of the once-massive J&P Coats textile firm.
It still stands as a proud reminder of the town's rich industrial heritage but is currently fenced off for safety.
The work will restore the cast-iron fountain's surfaces and decorative detail as well its original colour scheme.
John Love, a local textile manufacturer after whom the adjoining Love Street was named, created Fountain Gardens - recognised as Paisley's oldest public garden - in 1797.
Thomas Coats bought the park in 1866 and redesigned the open space before gifting it to the townspeople two years later. The Heritage Lottery Fund has just donated over £500,000 towards the £660,000 estimated cost to bring the fountain back to life.
