Tiny Tuesday. : : SIM Card*

So far there has been no suggestion that our power will be cut, although it IS almost 100°(F) today. We made our way to Sonoma State for our third artificial intelligence and ethics class. I was lugging sweaters for both OilMan and me because the air conditioning is usually cranked up so high. Not so today as the room where we were meeting was very hot. During the break several people asked if the dividing partitions between our very hot room and the perfectly cool one next door could be opened to equalize the temperatures. Eventually the answer came back that because we hadn’t paid to use that room, they couldn’t open the doors even though there was nobody using it. Artificial intelligence could probably do better decision making than that...or maybe that is the direction we are all headed....

The subject today was autonomous vehicles and the ethics of using them. Fascinating stuff. If an AV gets in an accident, who is responsible? According to the professor Silicon Valley tech companies are resistant to any kind of regulation because it slows them down. And they have no time at all for questions of ethics.

On the way to class we heard the news that the House of Representatives has voted to open impeachment proceedings against Trump for conspiring with Ukraine to interfere with the American election campaign. This decision is already being parsed and dissected but I, for one, am all for it. I can’t see that there is any reason not to and oh so many reasons for it.

I have read in several journals about Lady Hale’s spider brooch and googled it to try and put myself in the picture. I stumbled across this article in the Guardian. Not only do I want one of those black t-shirts with a spider on it, but the accompanying article about the Queen’s choice of brooches during Trump’s visit made me laugh out loud...Trump 0, Queen 3.

* Since it is still sitting on my desk, and it is definitely dead, I decided to see if I could pry the SIM card  (an item I didn’t even know It had) out of my old phone. A high tech, specialized tool called a paper clip, rebent and reconfigured was used. It wasn’t working too well until a little extra tweaking of the paper clip produced surprising results. The whole thing suddenly popped out and flew across the room.
