A walk in the woods
A changeover day today. On the way to our next destination, we went for an impromptu short walk, described by Lorenzo as flat and only 2 km each way. I didn’t believe it would be flat as the destination was a waterfall, and I reckon it was a bit more than 2 km, but it was along an easy metalled road through the woods. Not only that, but immediately before the short climb to the waterfall, there was a cafe and gift shop. So I stopped there for a cappuccino while the others continued; according to S, the waterfall was hardly worth the effort.
From there we drove on, pausing for a fruitless search for lynx (in a park from which they were absent for maintenance reasons; we spent a long time peering at a distant creature that turned out to be a fox) and wolves (similarly in a park, but probably asleep as it was midday by then). We stopped by a lake for a late lunch and then it was another couple of hours’ drive to Decontra. This was our favourite accommodation last time we were here, and Marisa didn’t let us down, greeting us with glasses of beer and keffir. Some people then went on a short walk to the hermitage we visited last time, while others (me) took the opportunity of a rest before the predictably delicious vegetarian dinner, featuring my favourite dish of home-made pasta and chickpeas, followed by polpette, radicchio, and carrot salad.
