Drip Stones

This is an old house (c. 1600) in St. Sampsons. It has a fabulous archway entrance. It currently looks unoccupied, but as it has a new roof, perhaps it is being renovated. Other interesting features on the building are its 'dripstones'. These can be seen above two of the windows and were to reduce water running down the wall and onto the window. The chimney also has dripstones. These would have been to prevent water running down the chimney and into the thatch which this house would have originally been roofed with.
