A Gruesome End?

I've spent all day shopping and cooking for a family event at 59's tomorrow so I ducked out this evening to find a Friday Flower for an EB.

However the first thing I saw was this in the middle of the lawn. 
Hope it doesn't distress any bird lovers but looks like one came to a bad end :-(

No, we do not have a cat, but the odd one strolls around our place.
