Portrait of a girl (Joh. Corn. Verspronck - 1641)

seen in Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (see also the extra's).
What made this such a popular image? That it represents a nice child in her best clothes? The girl was portrayed as a small adult lady, as was usual at the time. Only her facial expression reveals that she is just playing that role. Unfortunately we don't know her name and we don't know anything about her family. Maybe she lived in Haarlem, just like the portrait painter Verspronck.
