Up The Creek.
Frenchman ‘s Creek to be precise.
Another of our favourite Cornish Walks.
Starting in Helford village, and walking along the riverside.
Beautiful weather. So lucky as we had a torrential downpour on the way.
Again so many photos, but this was my favourite, taken on the way back as we walked down to Penarvon Cove.
Lunch was the best crab sandwich ever from a little cafe near the car park.
A tiny converted chapel with the delightful name. “ Holy Mackerel “. ( see extra)
We then drove down a VERY narrow lane down to the tiny hamlet of
St Anthony-in - Meneage. ( see extra)
Just a cluster of houses ( almost all holiday cottages) and a beautiful church. All built at the waters edge of Gillan Harbour.
As the church was open we took a look inside.
A beautiful interior. Quite simple, but with an original organ, and also a full set of bells which are still pulled by hand.
Lit only by candles, it must look wonderful at even song.
The story goes that it was built by shipwrecked Normans in the 11th Century. This is probably true as the tower is built of fine- grained granite, which doesn’t come from Cornwall, but from Normandy.
We made it back up the hill with no car coming down. Breathing a sigh of relief when we reached the top!
A nice end to the day has been an evening meal, joined by our hosts, at a little restaurant only 50yds down the road.
They only opened a few weeks ago. Just husband and wife. They have kept it simple with just a few choices, but all cooked fresh, and tasty. We wish them well.
I do appreciate yesterday’s comments, stars and hearts. May eventually catch up with everyone. Difficult when on holiday.
