As a kid, I loved Tubby the Tuba...

To the Village Underground to see Theon Cross, the TubaKing of South London contemporary jazz.
His quintet created wave upon wave of energising music...great slabs of brass, splintering guitar, skewed afrobeat rhythms...so loud, so exciting.
From Theon’s Tuba came honking, humping, spluttering, groaning, even velvety bass lines...sometimes underpinning, often leading, always startling.
I loved it all, huge thanks to Molly and Sonny for this delayed action birthday present.
