Another fantastic Sunday, another hike in the Alps. A hike of two halves, first half outstanding, from all aspects, second half not so fantastic.
I set off from Braunwald in Linthal, a small car free resort, and walked around to Bächialp, and on to the lake in the blip, Oberlegisee. It was very hot, especially for the time of year, and up to the point in the blip, above Oberlegisee, was great. However, dropping down into the shadow of Vrenis Garteli, and the various snow fields, the going was cool, damp, and treacherously slippy. All the cows had been taken down over the weekend and the paths were rutted mudslides with soft cowpats! Anyway, I got down slowly, only to find path to Schwanden closed, and new path not well signposted, so ended up in a huge avalanche/highwater protection building project, and had to work out how to navigate my way out! So all in all a day to test out my navigation skills, and ability to keep going in awful conditions. It was sunny and warm still, when I arrived at Schwanden railway station 7 hours later.
