Nick's Cove, Tomales Bay
The need for bookcases is getting more urgent as OilMan struggles to make space in the garage for his car. My brother and I both plunged into the virtual world of furniture and concluded that one needs to SEE something before committing a whole wall (or anything else!) to it. There ensued some discussion on where one might go to see a bookcase, but there was a distinct lack of interest in the enterprise on the part of some parties, so we all piled into the car instead and drove to the coast for a lunch of local seafood.
It was a beautiful day, the cows contrasting nicely with the emerald green pastures which stretch all the way to the sea, a scattering of farmhouses and barns completing the bucolic scene. There were very few people or cars about as we crested the last hill and looked down on the little town of Tomales (pop. 500). There's a good bakery in Tomales, which looked like it was closed, but our objective was Nick's Cove, a restaurant just down the coast. The little fishing pier stretching out into the bay beckoned, so after our fish and chips and crab cakes we ventured out there.
Some views are deceptive. The wind had come up while we were eating lunch and threatened to blast us right into the water, so we scurried back to the comfort of our car. A visit to our old friend the Cheese Lady yielded plenty of supplies to keep us happy while my brother whips up a little dinner for all of us (including Dana's family).
The day began with a beautiful red streaked sky, and is ending with more of the same. I don't know what that says about the state of mind of the shepherds (or sailors), but it certainly has bookmarked a lovely day for us.
