Mundial
Worldwide.
It’s very uncomfortable on a plane on a 4-person row containing only adult men who all possess shoulders. Seats are not equipped for such people, and it is quite odd to be trying to relax entwined with the arms of strangers. Cue zero sleep overnight from Brazil to Angola, but at least some interesting podcasts listened to. Whilst in transit I caught up on Mozambique news and learnt that a plane came off the runway after landing at Maputo airport a few days ago. Not the most comforting of pieces of information to receive in advance of landing there. All of the above acts as a very good deterrent to air travel.
Back in Mozambique I needed an early night but went down the hill for some falafel beforehand. On the screen was a football match between Slavia Prague and Borussia Dortmund. I’m still reading the book Sapiens, which argues that rampant internationalisation of the planet has led to human suffering on a very large scale, however I couldn’t help but be agog at my experiences of globalisation today. Returning to Mozambique via Angola from a holiday in Brazil which I spent with a Colombian who lives in Argentina. Food with its roots in Egypt and the Middle East, the TV showing teams from the Czech Republic and Germany and messages being exchanged with friends in Cambodia, Australia, the UK and the United States. And then the waiter bought a glass of complimentary tea, which originated in China.
When you are privileged enough to be able to experience the wonder of globalisation, the world is truly fascinating.
Maputo from above as I flew in today. 26 degrees and sunny, which felt rather nice.
