Along the Roadside

Dear Diary,

I really like the range of colors in these expiring ferns along the roadside.  Like the ferns in my front yard which turned lovely shades of purple, plants seem to want us to know that there is more to them than what they appeared all summer long.  It is their way of going out in a blaze of glory.  John will be here in a couple of hours to begin cutting back the garden.  It is just above freezing this morning and I heard that parts of northern Maine might get some snow tonight!  It is WAY to early to start that!
