Ivy - Hedera ilex

I was waiting for a lift this morning at the top of our lane and noticed I was standing by a hedge of flowering Ivy.  The sun was out and the scent of the flowers subtle.  There were two different species of Hover 
Fly on this particular flower - the one on the right is a " honey bee mimic". When I got home I looked up "Ivy flowers" and found they flower in the autumn on the adult plant which has oval leaves.  Immature Ivy has five pointed leaves and does not produce flowers.   They provide an important amount of pollen and nectar in the autumn months.  Sussex University has done a study showing that almost  90% of the honey bees'  pollen is from Ivy flowers at this time of year.
