Pots on fire!
I went to a workshop on Raku pottery at the Quirky Cafe in Greystoke, had a really interesting day and came home with 8 small bowls with an assortment of patterns. We glazed the ready-made pots and they were put in the kiln at a very high temperature, then taken out and put in a bin of sawdust, where chemical reduction takes place and the characteristic cracking patterns are created. It all seems very hit-and-miss, depending on the thickness of the glaze, the amount of sawdust etc, but the extra shows the one I was most pleased with.
