Discarded bomb casing, Kew

This is a discarded weapon casing, I think from a Red Beard device. It's not widely known that work was done on these in the military projects area in Kew Gardens. Indeed it's not widely known that there was (and, perhaps, is) a military projects area in Kew Gardens at all. It certainly was not an obvious choice for a weapons-development site although that, of course, was the point.

I believe the 'research reactor' (which means, of course, plutonium-production reactor) has been decommissioned, although I don't think the site has been decontaminated. Certainly there must be some explanation for the flocks of mutated parakeets which infest the area.
