Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye....
I was up early, I managed to do a short run and then Gavin and I took Xena for a good walk in the woods while Thomas was packing his things. When we got home we loaded the car, including Xena in her crate, and we were off to Cambridge. We arrived at Adam's house at about lunch time and he had got some sushi for lunch from Waitrose as we requested. It was lovely to see some of Adam's house mates who were there and also Jenni.
Thomas had ordered a bike which he found at a very discounted price to be delivered to Adam's house, and so after lunch he and Gavin quickly assembled it. The majority of students in Cambridge have bicycles as they are not allowed cars, as the city is too congested, and because it is so flat the best way to get around is by bike so they all use them. Bikes get stolen far too frequently so it's best to get the cheapest bike you can find - his does not even have gears as you don't need them.
Then Gavin and I drove to his college while he cycled there on his new bike. The college had organised staggered arrival times and he was only due there from 4pm onwards. He was registered very efficiently and got his access card etc before we could go to his room. One of the reasons he chose this particular college is that it is known for having the best accommodation out of all the colleges - and wow, his room is like a hotel room. A double bed with built in bedside tables and bedside lights fitted above them, wall paper on a feature wall, a separate alcove with his desk, and a very modern en-suite bathroom which even has a heated towel rail. Not like student accommodation at all! There is a large and well fitted kitchen on his floor just for the use of the students on his floor, which is only 5 rooms. They also have their own laundry room on their floor. He certainly won't be complaining about his accommodation!
I made his bed for him and left him to unpack while we popped along to John Lewis to get a few things he needed - John Lewis is a hop and skip away from his college, which is very handy. We finally said goodbye at about 6.30pm to drive home again, and I admit I was feeling very sad to say goodbye. He had to rush off to the first event of Fresher's Week - except at Cambridge they don't get a week, it is more like a few days.
Xena was a little star today, she was very well behaved on the journey and had to stay in the car while we were unpacking his room, so she just slept while we did that.
The house now seems so quiet without Thomas! We will miss him.
I will catch up with journals tomorrow, I have had no time today
