Punks against Tory rule
Yet another protest - this time for an independent Scotland. There were lots of people, apparently more than 100000 in spite of the weather. The protest was very positive, lots of smiling people, some fun placards (see extra) and lots and lots of flags from all over the place. We tried to figure out what the various flags were. It was also very notable that I think Scottish society was well represented, old and young, punks and butterflies rising. Unsurprisingly, there was also a counter protest albeit tiny. I did love seeing the yes bikers even though I am so not a petrol head. I stayed around for the rally in the Meadows and listened to the speeches. The weather was too dreich and many people drifted away. The speeches were very good. Both Tommy Sheppard and Joanna Cherry clearly rejected Brexit (no surprise) but also reaffirmed an open and outward looking Scotland which strives to be at the heart of Europe. They also clearly said that an independent Scotland wouldn't stop at the status quo but would tax those who can afford it to build a better society. All things I fully agree with. Well, let's see what happens next. More pictures on flickr.
