IT'S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!!??
Well a great day today.
Had a bit of a bad night with the sore throat, but I did get some sleep and that makes all the difference. Such a comfy bed and so wonderfully quiet.
Weather much better than predicted. Heavy rain showers were forecast for York, however, we had a slight drizzle and later on a light shower but that was all - so no complaints there.
Didn't feel too bad today, so caught the bus into the City and went straight to the National Rail Museum. Started off by having coffee at the Station Hall Cafe, which was lovely. It felt cold out, the National Rail Museum was overheated, for me - so stowed the coats away.
It was fairly quiet when we went in but by midday there was a young school party in and a lot of tourists. Which is great for the museum. The school party were very young, primary school and it was great to see them being taught all about Stephenson and The Rocket. They seemed to be enjoying it too, but boy they had some great lungs on them - hee hee - still it was lovely to see their enthusiasm.
We spent a good 3 hours in there. So much to see. I took way too many photographs, but they're not great. Very bad lighting and too many people and/or objects in the way. However they do record a lovely day. It seems very appropriate to blip Stephenson's Rocket - the original.
We also saw Queen Victoria's gorgeous train and The Mallard. I was hoping to go on the Mallard Experience (a simulator) however it was broken so no chance there. Also being a Monday there were no steam train rides - ah well, if I'm OK we may go the North York Moors Steam Train at Pickering, if weather OK too.
We also saw some fabulous model train set up, which made me think of Knottman2 and wondered how his model set up was coming along.
After that we caught the land train into the City - no suspension, so very bumpy but great fun. We visited the Tourist Information, found out where to get the bus back. Then went to M&S and decided I didn't really feel up to going out tonight so we got the M&S Two Dine in for £10 deal, so we're having a chinese!!!!
We tried to get into Betty's Tea Rooms, but a huge queue in an area where the heat was blowing straight into you - not great at any time, so decided to give it a miss. May try again to see if we can get in a bit earlier without having to queue.
However we found a lovely place, almost next for a very lovely light lunch, called Lucky Days. It was delicious. Home-made mushroom tart and salad for me, shredded ham open sandwich with salad for Hubby. We then found Boots for some bits and bobs. Walked through the city back to the bus stop and home. As we got off the bus it started to rain - just a little. Overall a lovely day. National Rail Museum
Hope you've all had a great day.
I now have about 300 photos to edit, delete, keep etc!!!! Then need to do some studying for my Composition Beyond the Basics courts!!! Might leave that for a while and catch up once we're back home.
