Rudy went back to school this morning and as we walked there he gripped hold of some Christmas booty to show pals. Lego R2D2 (about 2cm tall) and Lego Luke Skywalker. We thought long and hard about calling Rudy Luke but stopped short, because he would have been called Luke Walker.... I now realise that 6 (and a half) year old Rudy would not have minded that one bit.
My boy is growing up all the time and our conversation this morning was (as always) precious. We spoke about the dark side and traffic and Alice and Spanish and school and dying.... He knew that it was my Grandma's funeral today and wanted to know more. I spoke as candidly as I could and then promised him that I would tell him all about the funeral when I saw him later.
So, this evening we had a chat and I told him that it was very peaceful and a lovely time to say goodbye, that he and Alice got mentioned in the service and that afterwards we got to eat sandwiches and drink tea and to talk about nice things.
I should probably have mentioned (and will when he can understand..) that it was funny when the minister said "please be seated" and then looked up and realised that none of us had been standing up. I also discovered that the family had many shops before settling in Broughton Street for many years (HM Temple & Co. for the eagle eyed - an horological wholesaler and maker on Broughton Street until about two years ago) And, that my Grandma had been a model in the 1940s. This is her.
My Grandpa (90 in May) had his hearing aids turned off for most of the day and I don't really know what I can say about that. Other than I think that I can understand why.
