manual

This weeks lesson is to put the camera on manual mode.  It's scary.

I used my 35mm prime lens which is fully manual.  I love this lens!  But it doesn't talk to the camera so I had to keep notes on what settings I used.

The first square was the camera's choice of shutter speed when I set it to f8 and 1600iso.  I didn't like it.  Considering this was set up in a patch of reflected sunlight, it shouldn't be so dark.

In the other photos, I attempted to keep the exposure the same (as well as my eyes could tell) but manually change different settings.

Troubles:
- sunlight changed to shade as I was adjusting things so it's probably not a reliable experiment.
- I couldn't remember what number the stops were.
- so I got a bit frustrated and just started spinning dials to see what happened.
- I kept having to pick up the camera to adjust the settings, then put it down, refocus (if I remembered), then take the picture - so the pictures aren't at identical angles like I wanted.

Things I learned:
- I love my remote shutter.
- the histogram kept changing as the light did.  I don't know what this means but it seems important.
- henny penny is far more understanding than real life.  I need to get better at changing the settings if I want to shoot on manual more often.
- it was more fun than scary.
