WE'LL MEET AGAIN ...............

Another lovely day today.  Forecast again was for sunshine and showers, heavy at times, some thundery ones. Well the sunshine was right and we had a few spots as we left and on arrival back at the Granny Annex Apartment, but that was all.

We went to Eden Camp today.   It is a history museum, mainly around World War II but incorporates all wars since World War 1 really.  
You can experience the sights, sounds and smells of life on the Home Front and the Front Line.  These are all set in the buildings and grounds of an original World War 2 Prisoner of War Camp in Malton, Yorkshire - about 40 minutes from York.

Eden Camp

It has 29 huts to explore.  I have to say in many ways there is way too much to take in but you can do it in stages.

I don't know whether we went on a day that was open for school parties but there were about 6 large groups there - boy can they make a noise.  Good to be educated in such matters, I just hope they take it all in and not just treat it as fun day out.

We did enjoy the experience and used the Canteen a couple of times.

I also found my Aunt's Evacuee Label in there (well a copy of it anyway) - which is quite weird to see it on display.  My Gran, Mum and Mum's sisters lived in Leiston, Suffolk which was deemed an area unsafe for children so they were evacuated to various places.  They were all lucky, although they were separated they went to nice places.

There is a Music Hall hut which was really a puppet show.  The puppets were of famous people of the time, like George Formby, Max Miller, Dame Gracie Fields and Dame Vera Lynn of course.  The puppets didn't look that much like them, but they had recordings, either via radio or old records that were taped and was rather a bit of fun.  They got the children singing along too.

All in all in it was a lovely day out but very tiring.  My humble suggestion for anyone wanting to go who hasn't been is to get a map of the layout and then decide what is important for you to see - it's just impossible to take so much in.  

I do like to pay my respects at such places and found there were places you could do this.

Now to plan what to do tomorrow.  If weather is up to it we're thinking of walking the medieval walls around York at some point!!
