Climbing the Cockscomb

We went to Hillwood this morning to see the Alfred Eisenstaedt Photography exhibit. He was a Life Magazine photographer for many years (90 Covers)  and took a number of very recognizable and famous photos as seen HERE  and HERE.  His career spanned 50+years and he was best known for capturing his many famous subjects in natural light with his small 35mm Leica.

After the exhibit, we strolled around the cutting garden which was quite amazing.  Hillwood was the home of Marjorie Merriweather Post and the cutting garden provides all the fresh flowers for the Mansion, the Cafe and the Visitor's center.  I picked up a list of all the flowers in the 2019 garden and there were about 175 different perennials and 175 different annuals. There were 8 different kinds of Celosia, and this is one of them. This is best viewed in LARGE.

It was an extraordinarily beautiful autumn day, with cool temperatures and cloudless blue skies, the kind you wish would never end.
