ELEMENTARY MY DEAR WATSON
Another great day. Our last in York.
We did have a light rain shower this morning but nothing much. We headed straight for the York Castle Museum.
A lovely museum and well worth a visit. We set off in the small toys section - well most of these shouldn't be in a museum because I can remember playing with them, and as I'm only 21.................!!!!
aaarggh - all the typing I did after this has somehow been lost!!! So here we go again!!!
By arriving earlyish, about 10.30am, this meant that we had the Victorian Streets section almost to ourselves which was lovely to meander and photograph. Unfortunately the photos aren't great because it was so dark I had to shot in high ISO which mean they are very noisy. Various different f stops didn't seem to make much difference. This one isn't too bad, but not brilliant. Still they record a lovely day.
After this section we stopped for coffee and then proceeded to the 1914 section and learnt how World War I changed the world., the Sixties and York's Prison Cells.
By now the light showers had stopped and it had started to brighten up.
We headed straight for the The Chocolate Story. A bit pricey we thought as it was only for an hour but we were "forced" to sample various bits of chocolate throughout, make our own white chocolate lolly and watch the preparation of some passion fruit truffles (part of the 5 a day of course) we then had to sample those as well!!!!
After this it was now sunny and we had a meander round The Shambles (the cobbled streets section, which look a bit like Diagon Alley from Harry Potter). Still busy but not as hemmed in as before so much more enjoyable.
We then stopped for a very light lunch (needed something not sweet) we went into a cafe in The Shambles right opposite "The Shop That Must Not Be Named" and parked our broomsticks OK. I was going to visit this afterwards but a large school party was queuing up outside so we decided to give it a miss.
After a further meander I found a second-hand bookshop and then a Teddy Bear Shop (heaven). I have come away with a new Charlie Bear, but the furry kind this time as they have become far too expensive but he is still very cute and called "Gallivant".
After some trial and error we caught the bus home. The buses appear on the destination screens then just as they are due they suddenly disappear!!!! We still couldn't get the one that stops right outside our Granny Annex so we caught the No. 4, which involves a bit of a walk - still needed it after all that chocolate.
Going to go to The Fox and Roman and tonight for dinner as a treat - something light for me I think.
We have loved York. I'm definitely not a city person and could never live in a city but because York is relatively small and is very picturesque, it's been brilliant. The only thing we couldn't do really was go on a river trip due to the Ouse being too high (due to lots of rain last week)!!!
We've been so lucky weather wise too, just a very occasional few spits and spots and a light shower this morning. After having symptoms and the start of a horrible cold twice I really wasn't expecting to feel so good but I have - yippeee. Great time had by both of us.
Thanks for dropping by, it means a lot. Sorry I haven't made any comments on your blips for the last couple of days but will catch up over the weekend. Have to dash now as I have to pack and then phone Mum before we go out!!!
