summer in Dumfries

I'd read about these umbrellas in the local paper but in my lunch hour today I decided to go and have a look at  them for myself. They are an installation outside Kings Coffee Shop in Queensberry Street, inspired by similar displays in other European cities. In this clip you can hear cafe owner Mark Smith talking about why he put them up.

It's been a bit blustery in the last couple of days so the umbrellas are looking a bit battered, but still bright and cheerful. Some rain fell (almost sideways) on me as I cycled home tonight, but it was mostly sunny in-between the showers...rather like summer in Dumfries :-)
