They Came From Another World
My Dear Fellows and Dear Princess Normal,
Today Caro's cousin Helen and her son arrived from Shetland. They are stopping off with us for a few days before heading off to the South Island for a tiki-tour* in a camper van.
I told Lemon we were expecting the arrival of Shetlanders. As a Pacific Islander, she was fascinated by the concept of Atlantic Islanders. There are, unsurprisingly, some similarities in lifestyle** despite the difference in latitude.
But then I showed her some pictures of Shetland.
"Pfff! That's not an island," she spat. "It's got snow on it!"
So now you know.

* This is a very New Zealand term. I'm not sure what the UK equivalent would be. "A driving holiday" is far too literal but "farting about in a van" seems too vague. A tiki-tour is somewhere between the two, I feel.
** Alcohol and music. Well, I told you it was unsurprising.
