Steam Launch

Today we went to the Steamboat Museum, a belated birthday treat from MrsCyclops' mum.  It's such a beautiful light airy building, with the boats and other exhibits beautifully presented.

We had a lovely ride on a steam boat too (a bigger one than this), which was surprisingly smooth and quiet.  While the rhythm of the engine was audible, there is none of the hissing, groaning, creaking, smell or mess I associate with steam railway locomotives.  It was var quieter and smoother than most internal combustion engines too - very peaceful, and with the sun breaking through the weather was perfect for a wee jaunt on the lake.  We had a delicious lunch at the museum too.

Many of the boats afloat in the boathouse are privately owned and on loan to the museum, including this rather beautiful wee launch that the owner sailed away just as we were leaving.  Such a peaceful way to travel.

After fun at the park and feeding ducks (and a trip to the shops to spend some "Lake District Pounds" I got for Christmas), we left CyclopsJnr with Grandma.

MrsCyclops and I went out to dinner and to the theatre which was lovely.  We saw "Tell Me on a Sunday" - a one act, one-woman performance of the series of songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber.  It was excellent, and Katie Birtill's performance was brilliant - far better than any of the performances on the recordings I have.  Loved it.
