Fires still burn
although we had a cool southerly change today many fires around the state still burn and we have the heat wave returning late Thursday afternoon. The fire danger locally was reduced to High from Catastrophic it will increase in days to come as the temperature rises.
Looking out the window at work, we could see the smoke from the fire over 70 kilometres (43.5 miles) from work at sea level (Moss Vale is 640 metres/2099 feet above sea level) it just shows the force of nature.
Planning is still under-way for support in the Southern Highlands and all crews are on standby hoping the heat wave will come and go without issue.
