Hello Kitty

Back to playing bowls after a month off. Our home night is a Tuesday so it's been a longer than normal Christmas break.

I usually play lead in a team of four. Each player, lead, second, third and skip have roles to play as an end progresses. My job is to bowl the kitty (if we have won the last end) and try and get my bowls (I get two) as near as it as possible. The second needs to either do the same or place tactical woods around the back. The third has the be a jack of all trades, being able to draw woods close to the jack, fire oppositions woods out of the way or place more tactical woods. Finally the skip is the rink captain, and he gets to call all the shots, as well as trying to make as many shots with his last two bowls as he can.

For some inexplicable reason last night, neither me nor the opposition lead could keep the kitty on the mat. Of the 21 ends we only managed it 6 times! On the rare occasion we managed it we got a round of rapturous applause!

We won by six shots in the end.
