Dining out

Blood culture results today showed the septicaemia was caused by staph aureus in Mack's bloodstream. No idea how he got this, could have been through his cord wound or even at birth or from people handling him. The main thing is they are able to tailor his antibiotics to be more specific for this bug. He is still on gentomycin and another one, and today has been commenced on vancomycin.

They are starting him back on some milk, very tiny quantities - 2ml every 2 hours. Poor wee thing is starving hungry and has realised that the dummy does not give any milk.

Kerr came in with daddy tonight. He's not allowed on the ward to see Mack yet, so we went to the hospital canteen for some slightly edible food. It was so good to see my big boy again and to give him lots of cuddles. He's doing great and is quite enjoying being looked after by grandparents while we are at the hospital.

He insisted on keeping Daddy's hat warm while we ate.
