Heading into Dalhousie Springs
Well, we made it across the Simpson Desert to Dalhousie Springs, and had some bubbly to celebrate.
It's been super having Mk&H along, being able to spend time with them, and drive with them too. So lucky!
Today was spent on the French Line, via Purni Bore - there's no other option. We came across a 4WD plus trailer that had lost a trailer wheel. It had broken off completely. It's probably just as well it broke when it did as they hadn't got to any challenging dunes, and some of them are really challenging. (I had to have 3 goes at one of them!) Fortunately this trailer wheel came off in a flat piece of track, but it was too narrow to pass. So, M&H walked ahead of our vehicles, out and around the scrub & desert on one side, making sure our tyres wouldn't get staked by anything, and once we were back on the road, on we went. The 4WD trailer driver wasn't a happy chappy. Every time he put something firm under his jack it just sank further into the sand. The advice is Don't Take Your Trailers on the Simpson. End of story. Mk commented a couple of hours later that there'd probably be a highway now around the trailer site, with others following our tyre tracks. And we wondered if they'd got it off the track by dark.
Now to get up to Mt Dare, and then back to Alice Springs.
There's some dear little zebra finches in Extras
