St Martinus parish

The church is dedicated to Saint Martin. He lived in the 4th century. As a Roman soldier, he once met a beggar. He shared his cloak with the sword in half and gave the beggar a half. He founded several monasteries and traveled with his monks throughout Gaul to preach the gospel and establish religious communities. He later became Bishop of Tours. He died in Candes in 397.
