Calke Abbey

A very wet day today, and not ideal for visiting National Trust properties, but we did!  Calke Abbey in Derbyshire.
It had been in the hands of the same family for over 300 years but it was passed to the Trust in 1985 in lieu of death duties.
The house is open to the public and many of its rooms are deliberately displayed in the state of decline in which the house was handed to the Trust.  Most rooms have lain untouched since 1880.
A fascinating place full of history and well worth another visit.
Mrs MD has an interesting Blip.
