Little and Large .....

A busy one today. After last nights rain the weather decided to play ball for once. Ronnie arrived at 9.30 to bruise the pile of spring barley that was sitting in the shed at between 19-20.5 % moisture. The stuff at the very back was starting to heat a bit so it was just in time. The barley goes from the 3 ton hopper between 2 big steel revolving rollers to break it down so sheep and cattle can digest it. If you feed whole barley to cattle it just comes straight through them without doing any good feed wise, a bit like humans and sweet corn !!
It also got a good coating of propcorn which is propanoic acid to preserve the rolled barley without having to dry it. By half 6 tonight we had done the 85 tons , and my sense of smell is well and truly gone !
My old 80hp Case Tractor looks like a Dinkey toy compared to its 185hp big brother !
