Ducks by the sewerage works

I walked on the public footpath that passes through Mogden Sewerage Works this afternoon, and these pipes cross the river between two parts of the site. They are obviously an attractive place for ducks to perch. I wondered if they are warm pipes, but the circle of spikes prevents any humans from investigating.
