Keeping Warm

Today was damp with a pale sun sometimes making it through the sky and just a degree or two above freezing. We spent most of the day in the garden getting ready for winter.
Furniture was put away, the water butts emptied, and bushes pruned. Jan did a lot of heavy gardening, weeding and planting bulbs. I moved on to sawing and splitting wood. Of course, the wood will keep us warm in the winter as we burn it, but today it kept me very warm as I worked on it.  As it started to get dark I was stacking the split timber, and finished just as it got properly dark.
Jan had gone in a little earlier and it was lovely to come inside and find dinner was ready.
I'm going to sleep well tonight!
