North edge of Monadhlaith Mountains

Silly really, no compact camera in pocket today to grab the opportunity when it presents itself, I deliberately trudged over the moorland to take this photo with the big SLR before we started because I needed the blip and knew I wouldn't get another chance once our work was under way.

Anyway this bridge featured in an Autumn blip. It is notable for being completely out of place in this wilderness setting. It is of pedestrian width but is clearly a serious bit of engineering.

The burn below incises a deep riven gorge through a vast bouldery moraine. If you look closely the burn hasn't finished its work in this respect and the side slopes continue to be under cut and sheared off. Lower down where the river levels out a bit there is a curious boulder field which consists of lateral ridges two to three metres high. They clearly represent the river banks from an era when the water took a different course. In fact many different courses.
Our project continues lower down tomorrow so may be I will get a chance to blip that then.
