I see no ships.

Overlooking the river, this 1642 fort was built by the Parliamentarians to defend the town against Royalist forces in the English Civil War. It only lasted until the following year, when the Kings men took control following a brutal battle. For those not familiar, the Parliamentarians won the war, only for the King's son to restore the monarchy (albeit in a less powerful position) a few years later.
Some things almost stay the same (cue the present political fiasco.)
