Bond on Blu-ray

The very lovely MrsCyclops got me all the first 50 years worth of Bond films on Blu-ray for Christmas. They have lots of special features, as well as being remastered from the original film and lovingly restored. Even Dr No(from 1962) looks great - so sharp and vivid!

I watched a special feature at lunchtime that covered how the restoration had been carried out - it seems like a painstaking process but they seem to think the 4k scanning resolution used was at least as good as the resolution of the original film stock - so this is kind of a "definitive" digital restoration. They also have complex plans for maintaining the digital edition in perfect form for the future, transferring the full resolution, uncompressed scanned data to new bank of hard-disks every two years. It sounds complex and expensive, but I gather Bond is the second most successful and profitable franchise ever (after Star Wars) so I'm sure it's worthwhile!
