Life's tangled skein

Grangemouth

Here we have the Grangemouth oil refinery - Scotland's only oil refinery and one of only nine in the UK (if Wikipedia is to be believed).

Photographing the refinery is somewhat frowned upon by the authorities, and I find myself slightly torn about that. On the one hand, as a photographer I assert my rights to stand on public ground and take photographs of anything I can see. On the other, this would be a heck of a juicy target for anyone wanting to make a big bang in the centre of Scotland. And on the other other, the aerial photographs of it on Google maps are remarkably detailed!

In the foreground is a hedgerow that separates the road from the River Avon. This spot is very close to the line of the Antonine Wall, a wall built around 150AD by the Romans at the northernmost part of their Empire, and named after Emperor Antoninus Pius.
