Hungary: Danube, Kalocsa, Pécs

Early morning on the Danube.

Our cruise ship the M S Thomas Hardy has a total of 1,652 kilometers (almost exactly 1,000 miles) before it reaches the Black Sea.

St Mary Cathedral (not shown here) is the fourth one, built in Baroque style.

In the archiepiscopal precinct is a world-known library containing 150,000 volumes.  Its oldest one dates back to the 12th century.
Every book in the library is dusted once a week,

Close to the Cathedral is a small Paprika Museum; currently Kalocsa is hosting a Paprika Festival.
The town of Kalocsa as was first mentioned in 1729 for its paprika harvest.  It remains a very profitable harvest in which many of the inhabitants participate.  (Look at the variety of products based on paprika.)

Photo 5 & 6: Pécs
Pécs is an important university city south of Kalocsa, not far from Hungary's border with Croatia.
These photos convey the vibrant atmosphere of the city's pedestrian centre.
